Oh, I yearn oh, I yearn oh, I yearn to feel you So I'll burn toss and turn till I yearn to leave you
2.
Slept through seven mornings woke up with my mind a fake slowly recoalescing into what I left when I was last awake The name is so gigantic a color one could only dream up move myself around, but whether in or out of bed I'm just as stuck Walk through severed endings a cavern carved in cold landscape geometry more sacred than we thought hangs clear in uninterpretable shapes The name is hardly real, though the color's not gonna mean a thing when face-to-face, but from feet way I'm forced again with no choice but to sleep Oh, the room caught fire and I'll be gone till it's put out Simmering in cotton cast against a static spring dryly, in a crimson drape your eyes meet mine and I can't help but sing You hushed me in an instant like an anti-incendiary quilt still the room caught fire then, and scattered 'mid the ashes my intentions wilt Oh, the flames rose higher and I'll see, through smoke, you made your way out I know, I know, that the flames will roar I know, I know, no one's keeping score and I know, I know, 'cuz my hands are sore and I know, I know, it's been said before But your eyes, your ears, your head, and your hair your smile, your lilt, your gait, and your stare your arms, your legs, and, I bet, your shoes your thoughts, your lips, your fingers move I know And I'll be gone till I figure this out till I figure this out
3.
She just destroys me when she comes around I feel her eyes close She just destroys me when she settles down It's weird to think I'm getting embarassed by how I say your name to my friends how we start talking and how it ends And though I know this kind of love's careless I'll still try and estimate how your voice sounds the way the words come out of your mouth when you say goodnight I tried to play a song something to recreate your face but I'm so quick to get distracted I couldn't even stay awake So I tried to dream you loved me to make the time I lost seem right but I can't justify my weakness these thoughts I'll never learn to fight It's weird to think I'm getting embarassed by how I say your name to my friends how we start talking and how it ends And though I know this kind of love's careless I'll still try and calculate how your voice sounds the way the words come out of your mouth when we say goodnight
4.
I saw the earth greyed out and pulled free from its sky no limits on its reach, a monolith grew high I saw the day recede and falsified by night the tower's blackness sucked the cosmos of its light I saw the past I knew washed out before my eyes in twisted tongues the blackness manifested lies I saw elaborate truths I struggled to deny five senses soon became a pattern unified I felt the sinking threads on which the earth relies in sickly sermon the apocalypse passed by I smelled the pheromones of ghosts borne out of sight the chapel bred a congregation spilling tithes I tasted something sweeter than I'd dream to try an infinite communion, blood turned into wine I heard my former selves let out their deepest cries they made my truth turn into how I'll come to die I'll stay alive for the ones who really love me You'll save your love for the ones who really love you You'll stay alive for the ones who really care

2015 05:52
You told me you'd go be happy despite wasting two years of your life I suddenly regained my sense of time 2015 in moments might look like countless angles of me in bed trying to sleep or crying my eyes red Because you made me live in a certain kinda circumstance where I can't tell what's good and what's right and when I'm staying out late with my friend all night if there's something that I'm doing that I really shouldn't do is it really 'cuz it's wrong or is it just because of you and when I lose myself, start thinking like ya taught me if I argue too, act like you're just anybody is the reason why I'm here because I'm so afraid of leaving or am I as bad as you, tryin' to make my life seem easy Now that I trust my conscience despite once having thought your game fair I finally show the ones I love I care 2015 felt vacant the climate rose a quarter degree the world moved on and now it's time for me Because I made my way out of a certain kinda circumstance where I can't tell what's good and what's right and when I'm staying out late with my friend all night if there's something that I'm doing that I really shouldn't do is it really 'cuz it's wrong or is it just because of you and when I found myself, stopped thinking I'm not sorry if I act too cool, treat my friends like they're nobody is it still too late to change, will the ones I love believe me I will never let the past be more important than feeling

about

If you dig through Arden Klawitter’s discography you will find a daunting menagerie of prog-pop, experimental rock, and electronic pop music. Contributing to a number of bands in the southern Orange County house show scene (The Gloriosas, Sila, Tractal, Cosmo Memory, and Talk, Tired Thanatoid to name a few), Klawitter also finds time to record and perform his own music in various configurations with his revolving backing band The Powerclaps. This experimental musician and musical performance artist has worked largely in conceptual and improvisational frameworks but his debut EP on Pacific Nature Records is Arden Klawitter at his most intimate and honest, striving to write genre-hopping pop songs that bear his soul.

Taking a completely different approach to conceptual music, Arden couches his earnest and raw lyrics in a framework surrounded by bass. In collaboration with frequent Powerclaps member, Nicholas Robbins, this duo churns out five tracks using limited instrumentation: acoustic bass (Robbins), electric bass (Klawitter), drums (Klawitter) with a smattering of jazz piano on “2015”. As Klawitter points out, this limited instrumentation and collaboration with Robbins,

“helped me convey these songs as a directly feelable experience- a more straightforward approach to songwriting, focusing on easily interpretable moods and themes. I viewed these songs as pop songs with elements of experimentation, rather than the other way around (like on my previous releases).”

These pop experimentations form a bricolage of genre experiments pumped through the dueling basses and thumping drums. Although Klawitter says he’s inspired by Billy Joel and Joni Mitchell, his final compositions feel more akin to an avid pop experimentalist like Dirty Projector’s David Longstreth with the odd charisma (and occasional baritone) of Beat Happening’s Calvin Johnson. From the black metal of “Naelgeria/Bobcat”, to the anthemic Animal Collective-meets-Arcade Fire groove of “Room Caught Fire”, to the jazz and soft pop vocal gymnastics on “2015”, Arden Klawitter’s self-titled EP is a kaleidoscope offering a glimpse into an eclectic artist’s mind.

Released on October 5th, 2016 by Pacific Nature Records on cassette tape and CD.
